DJ Theory (Jake Krauth) is all about moving forward. Born and raised in the hills of Western MA, he's been making music since he was in his huggies. Raised in a musical family, he got his first chops on the piano and drums, before graduating to the turntables at age 16. Nine years later, and now transplanted to the Bay Area of CA, Theory continues to push the boundaries of each style of music he creates and performs live.

Theory is well-known for tackling many genres while always taking an authentic and unique approach to each flavor. You can find him lighters up in the heat of the dancehall, flexing cuts live on stage at hip hop shows, smoothing out the sexiest lounge in town, or hands up, getting buck in the club to high-energy bombs until you've sweat it all out. With every set that Theory plays, you can be sure of good times, raw talent, and an authentic and unique experience. To put it simply, DJ Theory plays "music for the people".

With everyone and their grandma bluffing as DJ's these days, it's essential to have aces like Theory out there holdin it down every day for the masses. As producer and DJ for MA-based hip hop groups The Problemaddicts and Lyke Minds, Theory has performed, toured, produced, scratched, mixed and collaborated with artists like Masta' Ace, Planet Asia, Tash of Tha Alkaholiks, El Da Sensei, Akrobatik, Jahdan, and more. Throughout the years Theory has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many of his influences, just a few of which have included KRS-One, Sizzla, Mos Def, N.E.R.D, Ghostface, Brother Ali, Dead Prez, Antibalas, Soulive, Sean Price & Bootcamp, Little Brother, GZA, and many more... As founder and co-owner of Mystika Music LLC, Theory has taken a hands-on approach to the music business by supporting, building and promoting himself and affiliated artists.

Theory never ceases to prove his dedication as an artist and an individual, and still at a young age Theory displays a sense of maturity and experience behind the decks that challenges many veterans. Big things are surely on the horizon for '09. "Ever forward, never backward."

Current projects include solo production and remixes for The Problemaddicts, Jahdan & Noble Society, 77Klash, Jamtech Foundation (Sweden), Upsetta Sound (JA), and more. The Problemaddicts last album "The Dark Side of OZ" is currently #10 on CMJ Hip Hop chart, as was highlighted in CMJ magazine as a top gainer for the month of January moving 23 spots.

The market is over saturated with new jacks, rookies trying to go all-city in training wheels. There may as well be an iPod or a mixtape playing during the biggest parties in New York these days, we might be better off.

Meet Dave Cove aka DJ Synapse. He’s not having that.

This veteran DJ’s knowledge and opinion of music is built on experience and passion. To classify
his style is tiresome. Beyond presenting all genres of music to the masses, Synapse has repeatedly demonstrated his skill to select with the crowd in mind. Rock, Hip Hop, Ska, Reggae, Classic Soul, Dub, 808 Electro, and Breaks all blend on display with a unique presence. His cut-and-paste technique combined with his technical ability to manipulate music transforms his DJ’ing in to a live performance.

Digging deeper in to the history of his New York DJ career, you’ll find this is no hobby. Synapse
has proven his dedication to the art and skill of DJ’ing. Appearing at New York’s largest parties and events alongside international headlining acts has built quite an impressive resume.

Apart from DJ’ing, Dave has embedded himself in the most unique cultural forums the city has to offer. Working in the major recording studios and magazine offices, while actively performing, promoting and producing events has made friends, family, and music a full time career.

Don’t let his looks and charm fool you. There is more experience in one hand juggling a break
record than most DJ’s sharing the very same booth.

It's Dre Day 2009, everybody's celebratin', and we ain't leavin' 'til 6 in the mornin'!

THE PARTY
Now in it's 7th year, the annual Dre Day celebration (which always coincides with Dr. Dre's birthday, February 18) was conceived by the folks at Burlesque of North America.
http://burlesquedesign.com/

The Minneapolis-born party, which at various installments has featured a 40oz ring toss, Dr. Dre cover bands, and the game show-based $20 Sack Pyramid, has become such a phenomenon that it has spawned franchises in other cities, including Chicago, Austin and Brooklyn.

This year, Co-op and Hunnicutt are bringing the Dre Day Party to Canada for the first time ever!

The two-week tour, which will see the fellas hit nearly a dozen clubs across western Canada, including Friday Feb 27th @ Shine! Get Up Get Down - Fridays @ Shine.

THE DJs
With their unique blends of hip hop, funk, disco, rock, reggae and anything else that gets bodies moving, the dynamic duo of DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt have been ruling the dance party scene in Winnipeg for more than seven years. Together they have thrown over 30 parties at clubs (Doin' the Do!, Get on the Good Foot!), on riverboats (That's the Funky Ship!, The Funk Boat), roller rinks ( A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays", Bounce Rock Skate Roll), and even ice skating rinks (Soul On Ice), all the while making each party unique, and challenging themselves to out-do the last.

The winning formula? Well, this turntable tandem not only have the skills (and the records) to make the dance floor elite go wild, they also have the knack for packing them in, too. From witty press releases and quirky radio and internet commercials, to imaginative theme parties and unforgettable posters and flyers, these showmen and shameless self-promoters make sure that everyone knows where to be the night of their party.

And the hard work has paid off - the duo has been voted Winnipeg's best DJs by the readers of Uptown Magazine every year since 2002.

Co-op and Hunnicutt's creativity has earned them an international reputation, and as a result they have joined a global network of like-minded party-rockin' DJs. The duo has hosted an impressive collection of special guests over the years, including A-Trak, The Rub, Smalltown DJs, Certified Bananas, Skratch Bastid, DJ Day, DJ Numark, Buck 65 and Shout Out Out Out Out.

Lately, Co-op and Hunnicutt been expanding their reach to the rest of Canada and beyond. The boys have been featured multiple times on Much Music's Going Costal, and this past year they've rocked crowds in Minneapolis, Chicago, SXSW in Austin, Pop! Montreal and at The Rub - one of New York City's hottest monthly parties.

DJ Hunnicutt has been DJing since 1991, both in the clubs and as a member of the Winnipeg instrumental outfit, the Hummers. As a member of Farm Fresh, Hunnicutt was also a co-founder of the acclaimed Canadian hip hop label Peanuts & Corn Records. Currently, he is the DJ for all of the acts on the Peanuts & Corn roster, including rappers mcenroe, Pip Skid, John Smith, Birdapres, Gruf and Yy. Since 1994, Hunnicutt has appeared as a performer or producer on over 40 albums, recording with artists as diverse as the Rheostatics and Mood Ruff. He's hosted Born in the Break, a weekly radio program on UMFM, since 1998 and if that wasn't enough, he also DJs for the internationally-acclaimed improv comedy duo Crumbs, playing to sold-out theatres in Europe.

With ten years of experience under his belt, DJ Co-op likes to think of himself as Winnipeg's most versatile DJ. From the early days of throwing underground hip-hop nights and dance parties, to earning a spot in the 2005 Canadian DMC battle finals. His fresh and intelligent mixes have blown up Canadian campus radio charts, and have gotten love online from sites including discobelle.net. Most recently Co-op has been found backing up Epitaph/Big Dada rapper Cadence Weapon. He's also incredibly good at pinball.

THE HOST
John Smith is widely regarded as Winnipeg's most polytropic MC. Respected by all of Hip Hop's fractured factions, Smith is just as comfortable bringing a hot sixteen bars to the club as he is serving up youngsters in street corner ciphers.

Egypt - 4 Ways

Nights Over Egypt is a certified disco classic and here it's being served up 4 ways - the classic disco receipe, soulful house marinade, garage style, and a new keys special.  First up is the OG by Jones Girls.  A trio of sisters from Detroit who smashed this Dexter Wansel production.  That explains it all right there.  Serious.

Next up is the Incognito cover with house legends MAW (Masters At Work) doing their thing with the soulful house mix.  Incognito also gets a MJ Cole treatment for the UK Garage massive.  I remember when UK Garage was on blast...what happened to the massive?

Last but not least the most recent version out - Zo! laces the music world with an instrumental version of the track.  Given, the Jones Girls' provided ample instrumental joy (that is if you have the 12" vinyl or the extended edit) but Zo! updates the sound with Madlib-esque knocking snares and live keys replacing the vocals.

While Zo! brings "Nights Over Egypt" to the youth, the classic disco version is the winner hands down - it's like a perfect day that just gets better and better as time goes on.  Let it ride (play) out into the sunset.  Perfect.
